What is a Clinical Forensic Medical Examination Center?

At the Clinical Forensic Medical Examination Center, you can get examined free of charge if you have experienced violence.

Our physicians:

  • document your injuries
  • preserve evidence on your body and/or clothing
  • all in accordance with legally valid standards

You will also receive information about additional support services.

In general, the physicians at the Clinical Forensic Medical Examination Center are bound by confidentiality. In cases where reporting is mandatory or a report has been filed, the applicable legal regulations apply.

Afterward, you can schedule a consultation with our counselor, who will promptly inform you about further counseling options and, if you wish, guide you through the next steps.

Who can come?

The Clinical Forensic Medical Examination Center is here for everyoneregardless of your age or gender.

You can come to us if you have experienced:

  • physical or sexual violence
  • rape
  • child abuse or child maltreatment

If you suspect that you have been given date rape drugs, you can also contact us.

Important to know

  • You do not need to have filed a police report
  • You do not need an e-card to make an appointment at the Clinical Forensic Medical Examination Center
  • Our help is free of charge for you

Procedure

  1. Schedule an appointment: Please call us at +43 664 84 38 241
    We will discuss the following with you over the phone:
    • What injuries you have, to determine where the examination will take place (for example, at the Clinical Forensic Medical Examination Center or at the University Hospital Graz)
    • When an appointment is available (in most cases, an examination can be scheduled promptly)
  2. The Examination – Step by Step
    • You will be informed about all steps of the examination during a conversation
    • Your consent is the basis for every step of the examination
    • You tell us what happened
    • We take sufficient time for a thorough physical examination
    • We document all injuries (with photos)
    • Traces on your body or clothing are secured
    • IMPORTANT: Nothing happens without your consent!
  3. Support afterward
    After the examination, our physicians and our support counselor will provide you with information about further support services. For example:
    • Medical follow-up care
    • Counseling and support from victim protection agencies
    • Psychological support
    • Legal counseling

Upon request, our support counselor is available for a conversation shortly after the examination.
In an initial conversation, you will receive:

  • Guidance on how to proceed
  • Information about psychosocial and/or legal counseling and support options
  • Support and guidance for the next steps

The conversation and all subsequent appointments with our support counselor are voluntary, free of charge for you, and tailored to your situation.

Sexual Violence: Important Information

If you have been a victim of sexual violence:

  • The examination is conducted in collaboration with the clinic. Please call us; we will coordinate the next steps.

If the incident occurred less than 72 hours ago:

  • Do not change your clothes, or bring the clothes and textiles you were wearing or using (do not wrap them in plastic—please use a paper bag). Do not wash yourself (do not wash your hands, shower, bathe, or brush your teeth).
